ABSTRACT

This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the Corporación de Estudios para Latinoamérica (CIEPLAN in Spanish) scientific production. This was the most important think tank during the dictatorship and democratisation in Chile. The analysis is carried out based on bibliographic entries (n = 145), references (n = 4,055), and biographical information of the authors from 1979 to 1989. Three dimensions are analysed: scientific production and topics, collaboration and co-authorship, and references or information consumption. We use descriptive statistics, unsupervised topic modelling, and Social Network Analysis (SNA). The results reveal a constant trend in the scientific production and classic topics of the economy associated with inequality and political issues. Moreover, the collaboration and citation analyses show the existence of a community composed of recognised academics and members of the Chilean political elite who were central in the intellectual production and the references' network. These findings allow us to name CIEPLAN as one of the central epistemic communities during Chile's democratic recovery and transition, specifically during the first democratic governments, where a number of members were recruited to assume important positions in the executive. To this day, these actors continue influencing the policy-making process in Chile.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The objective of this article was to carry out a bibliometric study of the RPMESP publications (2010-2019) in order to enable the improvement of the editorial management and decision-making processes of this and other journals with similar behavior. It is a descriptive study with bibliometric methodology that analyzes through productivity, collaboration and network indicators the main trends of the journal. The records were recovered from Scopus, which, after a standardization process, obtained 565 documents. 96% of the documents were published in Spanish and in collaboration (two or more authors), which reflects the greater interest of Latin American authors in publishing in collaboration in recent years. An incipient degree of international openness was observed when documents were received from countries such as the United States, Colombia, and Spain, a trend that needs to be continued in the search for a greater degree of internationality. Peru as a country and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia as an institution had the greatest measures of centrality and power in network analysis. The strategic position of these nodes can be used by the RPMESP to establish strategies and strengthen collaborative relationships with all members of these networks. This step could improve the important role that the RPMESP plays in the scientific dissemination of medical studies in response to the great demands of today.

ABSTRACT

The h-index is an objective and easily calculable measure that can be used to evaluate both the relevance and amount of scientific contributions of an individual author and field. The aim was to examine how the h-index of academic morphologists in Chile relates with academic rank. A descriptive and correlational study was design. We accessed the Chilean Society of Anatomy professor list in January of 2015, for analysis of academic morphologists' h-indexes using the Scopus database, and data was organized by academic rank. Also, m-Quotient was calculated. Institutional productivity was measured, and institutions were ranked on the basis of cumulative h-index, m-Quotient and the total number of publications and citations. For all morphologists analyzed, the mean h-index was 2.9±2.94 (range 012). The mean h-indexes were 1.9±2.135 for instructors, 2.5±2.54 for assistant, 5.1±2.89 for associate and 4.7±3.92 for professors. There was a significant relationship between h-index and academic rank (P<0.001). The m-Quotient were significantly different between assistant/associate and professors (P<0.001). By academic degree, the mean h-indexes were 1.0±1.92 for Bachelor, 1.6±2.0 for specialists, 2.3±2.26 for masters and 4.9±3.4 for Ph.D. The total number of publications for Chilean morphologist was 1343 publications (13.85±18.392), with 5321 citations (54.86±106.392). The top 3 institutions were Universidad de La Frontera, Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that h-index (P<0.001) and number of publications (P<0.001) were the best predictors of academic rank. There exists a significant relationship between h-index and academic rank, with h-index increasing with academic rank. It is a reliable tool for quantifying academic productivity within morphology, easily calculable and may be useful when evaluating decisions regarding advancement within academic morphology departments. These results should serve as benchmarks for future studies.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: carry out an impact analysis of Cuban publications on INFOLIT produced by Cuban authors in the period 2000-2013, based on the number of citations received. METHODS: the papers cited were selected from among the 67 papers contained in the Wiki-Repository INFOLIT / Ibero-America-Cuba, and the citation sources were extracted from the database Google Scholar. The bibliometric indicators used were citations per year, type of citation source, citing journals, most cited authors and papers, and term co-occurrence analysis. RESULTS: 337 citations were identified. Their increase started in the year 2007, when more than 50 % of the papers published each year have received at least one citation. Most of the citation sources were scientific journals, mostly Latin American and from the areas of health, medicine, and library and information sciences, of which 19.69 % were mainstream. Topic correspondence between citing and cited papers was high, with a predominance of the central topics INFOLIT and information competencies in the domain of medicine and health. This trend was also the most perceptible among the most cited Cuban papers, showing high citation indices for few published papers. CONCLUSIONS: the impact analysis of Cuban research on INFOLIT herein presented shows the great relevance of these studies for both the national and the international scientific community
